Head: Serious Drum Problems

Pros: Cheap, works very well when it works....
Cons: VERY bad quality.
I purchased this printer about 6 months ago. Initially the quality was great but last week, I noticed thick black streaks on all my pages. Now the streaks are so thick, that the printer is unusable. The drum is likely to blame, and many other users have reported similar problems.
Maybe I received a lemon, but don't take the chance. My friend has the previous model, and he is beginning to notice a deterioration in quality.
Although cheap, this printer will be unlikely to last.

Head: Brother HL-1435: One Big Flaw, But Still Very Good

Pros: Inexpensive, Fast, Good Greyscale, Reasonable Toner Cost, manual duplex, All-around good printer
Cons: Must buy cables separately, major EMF issues, weak manual feeder tray, scant paper documentation.
The Bottom Line: As long as you are not bothered by the manual-feed and EMF issues I outlined in the review, this is a cost-effective winner.
