Head: Great printer for home or small office

Strengths: Paper capacity and handleing. Compact size. Amount of memory. Speed of printing. Mac and PC compatible. Price.
Weaknesses: Lack of printer cable.
Summary: This is my third Brother laser printer. I had the MFC 8440 and the HL 5140. They both are still working well. The HL-5240 is doing just as well so far. It prints fast and the print quality is good especially when you compare to the inkjets that I used to have. I use it in a small office and so for it is keeping up the the volume we need. It light weight makes it easily movable if needed. The capacity is good for my needs, it does have an optional extra tray if needed. The memory make it easy to continue to work on something else (I have some older computers. this printer repaced a old inkjet printer, so I had the printer cable already. But It would be nice if Brother included one. I had such good experience with the Brother printers that I would probable a continued customer. It is cheaper than the HP.

Pros: Prints clearly, quickly, and has wonderful printing options
Cons: Doesn't warn you before toner runs out
I really enjoy this laser printer. It has many functions which are perfect for my use -- I draft and revise documents several times before finalization, and I LOVE that you can print multiple pages on one piece of paper. You can also set it for a "toner save mode" and the quality isn't reduced very much at all!
One word regarding the toner -- as with most laser printers, the toner cartridge provided with the machine was far from full. Though the printer is supposed to warn you before the toner runs out, it didn't for me. I don't know if it was because it was the cartridge which came with the machine, or if it is just a malfunction. However, that is the one and only complaint I have -- I love this printer.
