The HP Deskjet D4160 Printer is an excellent product. It's very easy to install (although there are a few seemingly unnecessary steps in the process) and its print quality is excellent. Although I primarily use it for printing black-and-white review sheets, records and envelopes, I sometimes use it to print color pages as well. I haven't had any problems with it for any of my purposes. It prints pages quickly and does a wonderful job on envelopes as well. I cannot comment on photo printing since I do not use it for that.
Others have noted that there is a new version of this product available now. For small jobs, however, this printer is perfect. If you're like me and don't want to buy something that's capable of doing more than you'll ever need it for, this printer is the one for you. In summary: If you are looking for an easy-to-use, fast quality printer, check this HP Deskjet D4160 out.

After having endless problems with an Epson R320 I finally had to acknowledge that my long-running romance with Epson had ground to an unhappy end. I didn't really expect HP to be much different, since I've grown very cynical about corporate scams to increase the bottom line via expensive accessories, built-in obsolence, etc., but I was very pleasantly surprised when I hooked up the D4160 to my Mac.
Installation was as easy and automatic as it gets (on OS 10.3.9). Even better, the printer worked perfectly the first time I tried it out. The print quality was superb, and the speed (for black text) was well beyond anything I'd experienced with earlier printers. Compared to my Epsons it was blazing fast.
The best surprise came when I needed to print a standard business envelope. Even my old beloved Epson stylus had been finicky (forget the R320, that was hopeless!) when it came to feeding and printing envelopes. I had grown used to wasting two or three envelopes every time, due to splotches, crumples or whacky print patterns with no relation to my settings.
The HP printed a perfect envelope on the first try.
Thank you, Hewlett Packard, for restoring at least a modicum of faith in the business community. With all the amazing advances in technology, it is simply unacceptable for companies to spend more time trying to squeeze every penny of profit from their customers at the expense of reliable, easy-to-use products.
If HP continues making products like this, and doesn't succumb to the greed is good philosophy ruining the consumer's world, I will be a customer for life..
