I would've given this All in One a 5 were it not for the fact that it is manufactured by HP. You see, I thought the "receive" feature of my fax machine was not functioning for some time. It turns out that HP has a "fax back" system whereby faxing to the number will in turn generate a fax back to the number from which the fax came. It is 888-HP-FAXME. Turns out that the tones from the system, which are simulated fax tones as I understand it, actually come from a computer and can cause the receiving fax machine to not recognize the tones as bona fide fax tones. So, for several days I tinkered with settings and such and finally threw up my hands in utter disgust. Then it dawned on me that it could be HP's own fax back system that was causing the problem. I got someone to fax me five (5) faxes in a row and all were successful. I call this scenario insiduously ironic, as it was HP's own system designed to test functionality for receiving faxes that was causing the problems.

The machine itself works well and has pretty intuitive settings (although a bit cumbersome and awkward to navigate through). It's a good looking machine with robust features. I only use the copy and fax features as I have not hooked it up to a PC. I would imagine the scanning and printing features are fine. Keep in mind, though, that these inkjet All in Ones are not fast copiers (not sure about printing), though maybe they're faster when operated through a PC.

Header: Perfect little all-in-one printer!

I have a home office set up so that I can sometimes work from home. I was tired of having 3 different printers (laser, inkjet, inkjet with scanner and copier) and a fax machine. This nifty little guy replaced all four machines! It works wonderfully. The print quality is very good, better then I expected. For someone that uses it to print presentation materials, the occasional personal photos, send faxes, scan, and make copies, this machine is a great addition.

I did have some trouble initially installing it to my pc. But I've heard it takes a little trouble in the begining for Windows XP's. Eitherway once the installation is fully complete (which I did by myself without any HP assistence, by just working at the kinks) it is good to go and a great asset. I've even used it to print business presentations materials already and they came out better then at my local Staples copy center.

In my humble and not printer savvy opinion, I believe this is a great machine at a very good price for all the other machines it eliminates.
